THE BIG FIX SCREENINGS THIS EARTH DAY

Dear Friends,

Good news. It’s not too late to sign up to host a screening of ‘The Big Fix’ for Earth Day weekend (April 20th, 21st and 22nd). Screenings are taking place from Hawaii to Florida and everywhere in between. Want to see if there’s a screening near you? Check out the ‘watch’ page. If there’s no screening near you – sign up to host one!

We will be doing three free live Q & A’s the evenings of Friday April 20th, Saturday April 21st and Sunday April 22nd (one for each major time zone) via phone and web for the screening participants. The Q & A’s will be timed to coincide with screenings that begin at 7pm in each time zone (so we’ll be online at around 8:30pm your time, right after the movie finishes). And like we said – the Q&A’s are our gift to you for participating – free.

Why is ‘The Big Fix’ possibly the most important movie you can watch right now?

As we gear up for another election, we’re already seeing the mixed results of America’s “All of the Above” energy strategy. Increased fracking for natural gas has lead to an oversupply of natural gas, depressing prices – but the increased offshore drilling and the beginning of the Keystone XL pipeline hasn’t changed the price of gas at the pump. In fact, as tension in the Middle East ratchets up, oil futures are on the rise. In other words, you can expect gas prices to continue to climb into the summer. So even if you don’t care about the state of your water or air – the current strategy is broken because you are paying more to fill up no matter what they do.

The bottom line: no matter how much more fossil fuel we drill and pipe and frack – the price of gasoline will continue to climb on an annual basis. Until we embrace an energy plan (not a strategy, but an actual plan like other developed countries have) that puts renewable energy at the forefront of our national energy policy, the fossil energy companies will continue to reap massive profits and you and I – the taxpayers – will be left with the bill.

Is this how it’s supposed to work in a Democracy?

Perhaps President Bush had it wrong when he said “America is addicted to oil.” Perhaps a more accurate statement is that the majority of us are, in fact, slaves to oil. The game in congress is so rigged, so fixed, that even when we think renewable energies are getting a break and moving forward – it’s only just enough to give the perception of change. Sure enough, they’ll yank helpful laws back the moment that renewables start to be competitive.

So what can be done?

Well, first things first. We’ve got to expose their dirty little game. And then we can squash it.

Sound like fun?

Then join us in exposing ‘The Big Fix’ that our politicians and energy companies are in.

It all starts on Earth Day weekend – and you can sign up to host a screening here.

It’s time to get the truth out.

Yours in solidarity,
